Six years on, BNP Paribas Corporate & Investment Banking,
has been sponsoring the Institut Pasteur,
supporting medical research in thirteen countries in 2014
BNP Paribas CIB offers financial aid to two teams from the Institut Pasteur in Paris, and to several teams from the International Network of Institut Pasteur abroad as well as to laboratories working in collaboration with French “Pasteurian” scientists.
Research projects are often linked to public health problems encountered in each of the thirteen countries of the program. They include the development of a combined vaccine against measles and AIDS in France and United Kingdom for example, research on various diseases such as hepatitis (Spain, Belgium or Russia), malaria (Brazil), dengue fever (Hong-Kong), diphtheria (Poland), or leshmaniasis (Canada)…
In 2013, scientific programs supported by CIB in different countries led to major results, among them :
• a vaccination protocol that completely protects immunized mice against experimental malaria (Brazil)
• the efficacy in animal models of combined measles vaccines against arboviruses transmitted by mosquitoes (dengue, chikungunya, west Nile diseases) has been demonstrated (Institut Pasteur in Paris)
• a novel host factor implied in dengue virus internal capture was discovered, which could been crucial for the development of effective therapeutics strategies (Hong Kong University Pasteur Research Center).
• The diagnosis of French case of the new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus as well as studies about virus genomics and heat inactivation of this virus (Institut Pasteur in Paris).
To date, BNP Paribas is an important partner of the Pasteur Institute. Since 2008, the financial support brought by BNP Paribas Corporate & Investment Banking represents nearly 2.3 million Euros.
