BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance, the Korean subsidiary of BNP Paribas Cardif, the insurance arm of BNP Paribas, announced that it has expanded its ‘Green Leader Program’ to allow more people of different ages to build a positive mindset through the fun of urban farming.

The ‘Green Leader Program’, launched by BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance in 2011, aims to help the underprivileged groups in the society to increase their self-confidence through different environmental education activities, including growing vegetables and gardening.

Previously, the program was open for the children at the Dongmyung Child Welfare Centre only. However, given the very good response from the participants, BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance has decided to expand the program to include the children and the elderly people at the Myeonmok Community Welfare Center as well, so that more people can benefit from this very meaningful program.

Altogether, the Program now has over 120 participants including the children and the elderly people at the two welfare centres, BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance’s employees who act as volunteers, and experts from Forest for Life, which is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to forest and environmental education.

For the participants from the Myeonmok Community Welfare Center, each child will pair up with an elderly person to join the activities and do the farming together. This is to allow the younger generation and the older generation to better understand each other and learn how to co-operate with each other. With the help from BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance’s employee-volunteers, a garden has been set up at the Centre, which the young and old participants will take care of for the next three years. To celebrate it, BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance’s employee volunteers and the participants of ‘Green Leader Program’ also held their first activity of planting seeds on April 10.

Jean-Christophe Darbes, CEO of BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance, said: “BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance always believes in the importance of investing for the future. We are very happy that the ‘Green Leader Program’ helps provide a good opportunity for the younger ones to learn from the older ones’ experience and for the older ones to continue to contribute to the society. This helps build a positive mindset for people at different stage of life and narrow the generation gap in the society.”

The ‘Green Leader Program’ is part of BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance’s ‘Happy Forest for Sharing’ project which has been conducted in partnership with Forest for Life since 2011. It was awarded with the ‘10th Environmental Education Program’ certificate from the Ministry of Environment last year after earning recognition for its excellence, environmental consciousness and safe execution.
