[PRESS RELEASE – Seoul, May 26, 2014] BNP Paribas today announced that it will sponsor a number of sport activities for children at Dong Myung Children Welfare Centre in Korea to help nurture a healthy life style among the children until September, as part of its regional Help2Help Programme which aims to encourage its employees to participate in voluntary work by offering sponsorship to the charities that they are participating in.
BNP Paribas launched the Help2Help Programme last year in Asia Pacific, which invited its employees in different markets to submit proposals to apply for BNP Paribas’ sponsorship to support the charities that they have been providing voluntary services to.
After a series of internal nomination and voting, a total of 13 proposals were successfully approved to be granted with BNP Paribas’ sponsorship for a range of charity programmes, such as teaching English to orphans and street children in India, providing special tutorial programmes to children with disabilities in Australia, and offering tutorial to children on welfare in Hong Kong.
In South Korea, based on a proposal submitted by its employees, BNP Paribas will provide support to Dong Myung Children Welfare Centre and sponsor over 70 physical education sessions for children aged 2 to 4 this year. A number of BNP Paribas employees will also act as volunteers to assist in these sessions as well.
Joris Dierckx, Country Head of BNP Paribas Korea, said: “As a leading global bank, BNP Paribas has always been dedicated to acting as a responsible bank fulfilling its corporate social responsibility in every market it is present. We are proud to see the active response to the Help2Help Programme from our employees across the Asia Pacific region. We hope the co-operation with Dong Myung Children Welfare Centre can help promote a happy and healthy life style among the young children in South Korea.”
Kim Kwang-bin, Director of Dong Myung Children Welfare Centre, said: “We are very pleased to have the support from BNP Paribas to our sport activities for the children who live in dormitories with multiple roommates due to a lack of space. We believe doing exercise and playing sports can help them relax and gain a fresh breath outdoor. This is good for not only their physical health, but also their mental health.”
Apart from this sport project, BNP Paribas also supports a number of other CSR activities with different charities promoting environmental protection, arts and culture among the younger generation in South Korea.
