BNP Paribas announces today the successful completion of ‘MODAFE CSR Workshop with BNP Paribas’ in cooperation with the 2015 International Modern Dance Festival (MODAFE 2015). This event was organised as part of BNP Paribas Group’s ongoing engagement in corporate philanthropy initiatives. Children from child welfare centers of ‘On Friends’, a non-profit organisation BNP Paribas has been continuously supporting with various activities including art education and kitchen renovation programs, were invited to the dance workshops.
On 23 May, two sessions of dance workshop led by renowned choreographer Hae-jun Park were held at the Arko Arts Theater in Seoul. Park is the grand prize winner of the 11th Seoul Dance Festival and boasts a prolific dance portfolio of over 40 choreographed pieces across a wide range of genres including modern dance, cinema and musicals. During the workshop, Park gave special dance lessons for children to experience and familiarise themselves with the world of modern dance. Participating children showed great interest to learn from the top choreographer and enjoyed this special dance workshop.
Joris Dierckx, Country Head of BNP Paribas Korea, said: “BNP Paribas conducts various corporate philanthropy initiatives globally through the BNP Paribas Foundation. In Korea, BNP Paribas sponsored MODAFE in 2013 and this is our second year to sponsor MODAFE. The sponsorship to MODAFE is part of our commitment to support contemporary dance which receives little attention from the traditional sources of corporate philanthropy. The dance workshop for children embodies our passion to help combat social exclusion. We want to help the disadvantaged by giving them a memorable experience and cherish. I hope the children had a good time at the workshop and we will continue to be a socially responsible firm by actively engaging in corporate philanthropic initiatives.”
MODAFE chairwoman Hyun-nam Kim commented, “We have had the pleasure of cooperating with BNP Paribas from 2013 via MODAFE 2013’s opening performance ‘BABEL’. BNP Paribas is making a great contribution to the advancement of Korea’s modern dance through its support such as the MODAFE dance workshops for children which was held last year as well as this year and the sponsorship of this year’s ending performance ‘Plan B’ by Compagnie 111.”
BNP Paribas has continuously strived to bring artistic values to the Korean community over the years. Previously, BNP Paribas sponsored ‘BABEL’, a dance piece co-choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, which was invited to MODAFE 2013 as the opening performance. In 2012, it brought the world premiere of Pierre Rigal’s ‘Theatre of Operation’, a joint project with Korean dancers, performed at the LG Arts Centre.
