BNP Paribas continues its commitment to grassroots tennis, offering free tennis lessons to children

This year’s event was selected as an official sporting event to commemorate 130 years of diplomatic relations between France and Korea

2016 BNP파리바 아마추어 오픈1 BNP Paribas today announced that nearly 2000 amateur tennis players and their families participated in the ‘2016 BNP Paribas Amateur open’, held from 3rd to 11th September at courts in Anyang, Bucheon, Guri and Suwon.

In addition to the competition, BNP Paribas also continued its support for the next generation of tennis players, offering free lessons to 100 children aged 7-12 years old, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. The lessons were arranged to let children experience the joy of playing tennis and a ‘Junior Tennis Scholarship’ handover ceremony was held to encourage young players.

BNP Paribas Amateur Open was organised as part of the BNP Paribas Group’s “We Are Tennis” campaign, through which the bank supports tennis at all levels globally. The tournament has been held in Korea for four consecutive years and is co-hosted by BNP Paribas Korea and BNP Paribas Cardif Life Insurance and organised by Korea Amateur Tennis Organisation (KATO).

In 2016, BNP Paribas Amateur Open was selected as one of the official sporting events commemorating the 130th year of French-Korean diplomatic relations.

Philippe Noirot, Country Head of BNP Paribas Korea, said: “Now into its fourth year, BNP Paribas Amateur Open has positioned itself as a festival not only for tennis enthusiasts, but also for children and families.  I am very proud that the tournament was selected as an official sporting event for the ’2015-2016 French-Korea year’ and that we are able to contribute to the health and well-being of our community, and moreover, an amiable relationship between two countries through tennis.”

BNP Paribas has been sponsoring tennis for over 40 years and is the official sponsor of Roland Garros, one of the world’s top four tennis tournaments. It is also the title sponsor of the WTA Finals, planned to be held from 23rd to 30th October 2016 in Singapore.
